How we curate

Last reviewed September 2026 · Holistic Croatia team

This is the standard behind every entry in the directory: what gets in, what does not, and where evidence actually lives. It is written down so you can hold us to it.

What we list

We list places whose practice has a plausible physiological or psychological mechanism: bodywork, movement, nutrition, licensed therapy, and thermal and spa treatments. That is the whole test. It is not a promise that a given session will work for you — only that the field it belongs to is one where an effect is possible and can be studied.

Today that comes to 1,793 live listings across 17 categories in 115 cities. Massage (492) and fitness (438) are the largest; psychotherapy (151), day spas (144), yoga (116), manual therapies (103) and pilates (96) follow; breathwork, with a single listing, is the smallest. Alongside them we keep 31 beaches, 22 ACI marinas, and events.

Every entry starts from public sources — the venue’s own site, official registers, Google Places — and is then checked by hand: category, address, contact, opening hours, and whether the place is still operating. Listing is free and stays free. If one of these places is yours, you can claim the listing at no cost and edit it yourself.

What we will not list

A register of 28 keywords sits in front of the directory. It runs against the name and the description, and a hit means the place does not go in. The families:

  • Energy practices — reiki, bioenergy and biotherapy, access bars, theta healing, energy healing. Sound baths are the exception: they sit under mindfulness, because what they do is sensory and attentional rather than energetic.
  • Diagnostics without evidence — bioresonance and QUEX devices, VEGA testing, applied kinesiology, quantum medicine. Ordinary kinesiology is a legitimate profession and is listed.
  • Homeopathy and its neighbours — homeopathy, Bach flower remedies, orthomolecular therapy.
  • Esoterica — astrology, tarot, shamanic practice, ayahuasca and cacao ceremonies.
  • Psycho-practices without evidence — hypnotherapy, regression therapy, family constellations, NLP, WingWave coaching, auriculotherapy.

Context matters, and we read it. A description calling the water crystal clear is describing water, not selling crystal therapy; chakras named in a yoga class are the anatomy of a tradition, not a treatment on the price list. The register grows as we meet new wording — the last additions were made in August 2026.

None of this is a verdict on what anyone believes, or on how someone felt walking out of a session. It is a decision about what this directory is for. Plenty of worthwhile things are not in it.

How we show evidence

Listings do not carry an evidence rating, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Sources are recorded on fewer than 1% of them; a badge on the rest would be decoration.

The evidence layer lives one level up, in collections and editorials. Every collection gives a short “Why it’s here” for each entry and ends with “Checked and not listed” — the places we looked at, decided against, and the reason why. Editorials name institutions, years, what was measured and which peer-reviewed work it came from.

What none of them do is claim a health outcome. The Ministry keeps a Register of Health Tourism but does not publish it, so nobody here carries an “officially recognised” mark — including places that may well be on it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong — a moved address, a studio that closed, a category that misses what the place actually does — write to hello@holisticcroatia.com. We read everything. As a rule you will hear back within a few days; we would rather answer properly than quickly.

Incorrect information gets corrected, or the listing comes down. If the business is yours, claiming the listing is usually the faster route: you get the keys and can fix it yourself.

Reviews and what comes next

There are no reviews on the site at the moment.

If we add them, they will be moderated and health claims will be removed. We are not putting a date on that.
